Dennis Cheaney studied at the Ecole Albert Defois, in France, with oil painter Ted Seth Jacobs, the Art Student's League of New York, The Water Street Atelier, and received his MFA ('98, thesis advisor Edward Schmidt) from the New York Academy of Art.

In 2003, he established the New England Realist Art Center and serves as the principal instructor of drawing and painting. His work is based on an observation of nature and long-held artistic principles.
